Stories of Dementia

Alzheimer's Awareness Ribbon

November 20, 2013 - 2:39 pm

Music+Ideas host Sonya Green talks with Mary Jane Knecht, Manager of Adult Programs at Frye Art Museum in Seattle, and Dr. Lee Burnside, from the University of Washington Medical School of Geriatrics,  and Mary Lou Brown, caregiver to her husband who was diagnosed with dementia in 1996.

The discussion ranged from the symptoms and progression of dementia, the impact of dementia on intimate relationships, and the Here:Now program at the Frye, illustrating the power of art to provide a refuge from and “normalize” dementia.
