Music of the Moment

5 brand new holiday releases we can’t wait to share with you this month:

  1. The Living Sisters  Harmony Is Real  (Vanguard) – Becky Stark, Eleni Mandell, Inara George and Alex Lilly have created one of my favorite holiday recordings for 2014.  Lots of original material penned by these ladies.  So, if you are tired of listening to the typical holiday music, give this one a listen.
  2. Over the Rhine  Blood Oranges in the Snow  (independent) –  This Ohio based husband & wife duo have created a holiday inspired album which they describe as “reality Christmas music” for those who want to acknowledge the bleak side of the holiday season. It is certainly not the merriest of holiday recordings but, if you listen close enough, there are plenty of hope filled moments.
  3. Marilyn Scott  Get Christmas Started!  (Prana) – This recording is for those who want their holiday music to be more on the traditional side but with hip-shakin’ grooves.  This will surely get your party guests up and dancing.
  4. Blind Boys of Alabama & Taj Mahal  Talkin’ Christmas!  (Sony) –  The Blind Boys of Alabama cover traditional Christmas carols and pen a few new ones for this new Christmas record.  Taj adds his tasty guitar licks throughout the recording.
  5. Various artists  An Americana Christmas  (New West) –  This is a mix of new and traditional holiday carols, and features well-known artists for fans of Americana music.  Be sure to check out Valerie June’s version of “Winter Wonderland”.
