The 7th Annual Eastside Honoring Juneteenth celebration is free and open to all ages at Juanita High School in Kirkland.
About the Eastside Honoring Juneteenth Celebration
Since 2020, Black leaders and community members in East King County have gathered to honor Juneteenth together. The celebration brings together representatives from the Lake Washington School District, Eastside For All's staff and board, local entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and community advocates. Together they have built one of the Eastside's most meaningful annual community traditions.
This year's featured guest is Mr. Delbert Richardson, Founder and Curator of the American History Traveling Museum: The Unspoken Truths. His work brings underrepresented American history to communities across the country through immersive and educational exhibits.
KBCS is proud to support the Eastside Honoring Juneteenth celebration.
About Juneteenth
Juneteenth marks June 19th, 1865 — the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. In 2021 Juneteenth became a federal holiday. The Eastside Honoring Juneteenth celebration honors that history while looking forward, centering Black joy, culture, and community in East King County.
