A Note From Our General Manager

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus noted that “change is the only constant in life.” Most of us a have a love-hate relationship when it comes to change, but some people are much more adaptable to change than others. I have always been among those more willing to embrace change and the opportunities it offers.

With that being said, I want to reassure you that the longstanding community radio format on KBCS will not change on my watch. With nearly seventy local volunteers sharing their unique perspectives on the music they choose to share with our listeners, that particular sense of place we cherish here in the Pacific Northwest will continue to be readily apparent to everyone who tunes in.

I believe that authenticity is the heart and soul of community radio. The authenticity represented by the many unique local voices on KBCS bears witness to our distinctive regional heritage and culture. Since 1973, KBCS has provided a public forum for people from all walks of life to comingle in nearly perfect harmony over the shared public airwaves. At KBCS we proudly display our acceptance of diversity and our spirited independence on our sleeve.

I recently asked our staff to replace all syndicated music programming on KBCS with locally produced music programming. Not only do we save money by not having to pay for syndicated music programs, we also provide more opportunities for people living in our community to have an opportunity to be the next radio personality on KBCS.

And who knows, perhaps one of the next disc jockey’s on KBCS could be you, a family member, or one of your friends and/or neighbors?

If you like, please feel free to let me know what you think about our programming or our programming philosophy on KBCS. One thing that seems to go hand in hand with being receptive to change is an open mind and a willingness to listen and learn from others.
