Congress Officially Claws Back Funding Approved for Public Media

July 18, 2025 - 7:17 pm

Congress has officially clawed back two years of federal funding that had already been approved for public media stations across the country, including KBCS.

10% of KBCS’s yearly funding came from federal funds through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. That is around $120,000 and that funding is now gone.

For those already supporting, thank you. We would not be here without you and are so very grateful. For those who have yet to give, please don’t wait any longer to step forward and become a member — start a monthly gift or if you’re already a supporter, please consider increasing your monthly donation or making a one-time addional gift… Now is the time, as public media funding navigates an uncertain future.

Support from you, our Puget Sound community is crucial. Without it, none of your favorite KBCS music and public affairs programs would be possible.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting not only provided funds for NPR and PBS and their affiliated stations, it provided direct funding for thousands of independent, non-profit, radio stations like KBCS.

In a time when local newspapers are folding up and local radio and television stations are largely syndicated and part owned by large corporate networks, stations like KBCS have stayed true to their community. We have our supporters to thank for that. If you’ve yet to give, please, make your gift today. Become an active contributor to KBCS.
