Social Justice Film Festival

Social justice issues are brought to light through film this week with the Social Justice Film Festival.  The Festival features  60 documentaries and films exploring a range of social-justice topics including racism and poverty, criminal justice, and human rights around the world.

The opening film is Mothers of Bedford. It’s a documentary that follows five women as they attempt to “parent” their children from prison. The film is being shown in partnership with the Seattle non-profit, Books to Prisoners, an all-volunteer organization that works on behalf of prisoners who submit requests for reading material.

Laura Brady is the assistant director of the Social Justice Film Festival.

Dr. Tanya Erzen is the director of Freedom Education Project Puget Sound or FEPPS. The FEPPS is a college program in the Washington Corrections Center for Women.
