Low Power FM Stations: An Opportunity

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created Low Power FM (LP FM) radio service in 2000.  LP FM radio stations reach a radius of three to ten miles with up to 100 watts of power.  In 2011, the FCC created an opportunity for communities to apply for LP FM station licenses.  This is the first and only time LP FM licenses will be offered in urban areas.  Since the FCC announcement, thousands of organizations across the country have been lining up to apply, including a number of local organizations.
