Election 2018: State Senate 30th Legislative District

October 19, 2018 - 2:58 pm

The KBCS Elections 2018 coverage takes a look at the State Senate race for Washington’s 30th legislative district which covers Federal Way and borders Pierce County.

Current Republican Senator Mark Milosicia faces Democratic challenger Claire Wilson for the 30th legislative district seat. Miloscia previously served seven terms as a Democrat in the State House of Representatives but joined the Republican Party in 2016. KBCS’s Greg Selby spoke with Wilson about important issues facing the district. Milosicia was unavailable for an interview but provided the following statement:

Hello.

I’m Mark Miloscia and I’m honored to serve as your 30th District State Senator.

Over the last four years, my priority has been you, your family and our community.  As one of the most independent members of the Legislature, I helped lead on innovative bi-partisan measures that cut college tuition, fully funded schools, passed paid family leave and ensured equal pay for women.

And just this year I stood up to leaders of both Parties by fighting their efforts to hide legislative records from public review.

My consistent goal has been to make state government more accountable and transparent. And to make sure the programs intended to help those who need it are actually working.

Meschell and I raised our three children and helped raise our grandchildren here in South King County. Our community and your family’s future prosperity and safety are my top priorities.

That’s why I believe our community deserves effective, bipartisan solutions rather than expensive, ineffective ideas and increased taxes like those promoted by Seattle. And we can bring relief to families and small businesses by using a portion of the budget surplus to cut high property taxes and car tabs.

I’m proud to be endorsed by Teachers, Nurses, State Troopers, and Firefighters along with groups from across the political spectrum.

This election season, I’m asking for your vote.  Join with me to create a more prosperous future, better schools, and safer neighborhoods.
