Duncan Goulding – DJ Appreciation Spotlight

December 31, 2025 - 9:00 am

One of our favorite smooth and articulative personalities, The Reggae Party cohost,

Duncan Goulding shared “I’m going to keep it pretty succinct.

I started listening to reggae as an impressionable middle-schooler in the late 1980s, trying to fit in with my cool older neighbors, who gave me my first LPs.  Spending large amounts of time abroad in the 1990s and 2000s, including ethnomusicology studies in Ireland and Birmingham, England, I tried to dive head first into music scenes wherever I went.  I accumulated some wonderful experiences and a heavy reggae vinyl collection.  My most memorable moments include nights with the Jah Shaka sound system, Linton Kwesi Johnson in Dublin on St Patrick’s Day, and the Notting Hill Carnival in 1995 and ’98.

KBCS volunteering began in the early 2000s.  I’d go to the station once a week to open the newly arrived CDs and review the reggae releases.  I got to liaison with the local reggae concert promoters, and began programming on The Reggae Party somewhere around 2010.  Highlights include working with Ranking Mark and welcoming guests into the studio to perform or co-host.

At home in the summer of 2020, I started “Dagville De La Vigo,” a YouTube channel of spinning reggae records.

Cheers to reggae music! “

Cheers Duncan!
