About Arturo Sandoval
Arturo Sandoval is a Kennedy Center Honoree, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and one of the most celebrated trumpet players alive. A protégé of Dizzy Gillespie and founding member of the groundbreaking Cuban supergroup Irakere, Sandoval helped redefine modern music through a revolutionary fusion of jazz, classical, and Afro-Cuban traditions. Since launching his own ensembles in 1981, he has remained a singular artistic force.
His collaborators span an extraordinary range — Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Celia Cruz, Plácido Domingo, Tony Bennett, John Williams, Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, and Pharrell Williams, among them. His journey from political oppression in Cuba to international acclaim adds profound depth to a career defined by resilience, brilliance, and artistic freedom.
Sangú
Sandoval’s newest album, Sangú, draws on Afro-Cuban roots, deep jazz tradition, global grooves, and modern textures. On stage, it ignites. Hypnotic rhythmic builds swell into soaring trumpet lines that seem to defy physics. The expanded brass section adds weight and brilliance while the rhythm section drives with authority and precision.
This is not a legacy presentation. It is evolution in motion.
The band joining Sandoval in Seattle includes Lisandro Pidre on piano, William Brahm on guitar, Daniel Feldman on drums, Maximilian Gerl on bass, Michael Tucker on sax, Roberto Vizcaino on percussion, Keith Fiala on second trumpet, and Larry Bustamante on baritone sax.
