KBCS Sponsored: The Taj Mahal Quartet at Jazz Alley

KBCS Sponsored: The Taj Mahal Quartet at Jazz Alley

November 28, 2026

An older blues musician in a wide-brimmed hat and colorful striped jacket plays acoustic guitar beside studio microphones, focused and soulful.

Taj Mahal Seattle fans can celebrate Thanksgiving the way the city has for years. The blues legend returns to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley from Thursday, November 19th through Sunday, November 29th. Doors open at 5:30 pm nightly, and shows start at 7:30 pm. A second set follows on both Saturdays at 9:30 pm. KBCS 91.3 is proud to support this engagement. Get your tickets at Jazz Alley.

About Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal has a simple view of his own art. “The blues is bigger than most people think,” he says. Moreover, he has spent more than fifty years proving it.

He traced the blues back to the American South, the Caribbean, and Africa. Along the way, he created entirely new sounds. Today he is 84, and he still follows the music wherever it leads. Because he treats tradition as holy, his work always feels both old and new.

The Recording Academy honored him with its 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award. He has won five Grammys, including one for his collaboration with Keb’ Mo’ and one for his work with Ry Cooder. He also belongs to the Blues Hall of Fame. However, awards never drive him. “You’re just the conduit it comes through,” he says of the music.

The Quartet

Taj Mahal leads the Quartet on vocals, guitar, piano, banjo, and more. Bill Rich, an internationally respected bassist, anchors the low end. Tony Durham brings revered percussion and drums. Meanwhile, Jim Pugh plays keyboard and organ. His résumé includes work with Etta James, Robert Cray, and Chris Isaak.

As a result, the band moves easily between Delta blues, Caribbean rhythms, and soulful grooves. Every night offers something a little different. Fans who attend more than once get a genuinely new show each time.
