KBCS Presents: Laura Veirs with Karl Blau at Tractor Tavern

October 25, 2026

A woman with a silver bun and long earrings stands in profile, wearing a sparkling black dress against a softly lit brown backdrop; the mood is elegant and contemplative.

Laura Veirs Seattle returns to Tractor Tavern on Sunday, October 25th, with opener Karl Blau. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm. KBCS 91.3 is proud to present an evening with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most beloved and enduring songwriters.

About the Artists

Laura Veirs

Laura Veirs has been making records for 28 years. She has collaborated with kd lang, Neko Case, Sufjan Stevens, Jim James, The Decemberists, and Bill Frisell. Her songs are literate and emotionally intelligent — earthy poetry wound through arrangements that expand and contract around the weight of what she is trying to say.

Her latest album Temple Songs is something new. In a backyard studio she calls the Temple of Bloom, Veirs recorded without a safety net. No click track, no headphones, no edits. It is her first fully self-recorded and self-produced album — a collection of live performances where feeling takes precedence over polish.

Karl Blau

Karl Blau and Laura Veirs have known each other for a long time. In the early 2000s, Veirs was passing through Anacortes to catch the ferry to San Juan Island. She stopped into a record store and met Blau. He made an impression. She eventually asked him to join her band. For nearly a decade, Blau played bass and electric guitar on her records Carbon Glacier, Year of Meteors, Saltbreakers, July Flame, Tumble Bee, Warp and Weft, and My Echo. They toured the English-speaking world together—at least a dozen European tours and as many across the US, including the Sufjan Stevens Come on Feel the Illinois tour.

Blau has been recording and writing songs since 1993. Raised on Samish Island, Washington, he spent 25 years rooted in the Anacortes music community — recording with Phil Elvrum, playing bass in the legendary Seattle group EARTH, producing records for K Records, and launching the Anacortes Music Channel. He now lives in Philadelphia and continues writing and recording. This show reunites him with Veirs in the most natural way imaginable — opening for the artist whose records he helped build.
