About the Artists
River Shook
For a decade, River Shook was the driving creative force behind Sarah Shook and the Disarmers — writing and producing some of the most relevant, no-bullshit country and indie rock songs of the modern era. As a result, their songwriting ranges from country songs as outlaw as Waylon and Willie to driving Seattle-in-the-90s grunge. Now, their debut solo single is out.
Meanwhile, River tours around 150 days a year across the US, Canada, and Europe. Along the way, they have sold out shows from Los Angeles to New York City and from Oslo to Madrid. Since their songwriting never stops evolving, each release earns fresh praise from Rolling Stone, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, No Depression, and beyond.
About Ismay
Ismay is the musical project of California singer-songwriter Avery Hellman — named after a town of 19 in the Northern Great Plains. Their sound is mystical folk and Americana rooted in landscape and land-based life. Growing up backstage at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, created by their banjo-playing grandfather Warren Hellman, Hellman learned to write and sing by listening to Emmylou Harris, Hazel Dickens, Mississippi John Hurt, and Leonard Cohen.
Their 2024 album Desert Pavement was produced with Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse. As a result, the record carries the same warm, unhurried attention to craft that defines Marlin’s work. Orville Peck has called Ismay’s future “incredible.”
