Sankofa Impact: Montgomery Bus Boycott

the Montgomery Bus Boycott was led by Black women of Montgomery after the court trial of four Montgomery women forced, on separate occasions, to give up their bus seat to a white passenger.  This movement ended segregation on buses. (more…)

Bus Boycotts and Segregation

We explore buses and transportation as centers of movement-building and activism. Segregated bus systems were deemed unconstitutional in 1961, only after very persistent efforts by hundreds of freedom fighters who put their life on the line as they demanded for desegregated bus facilities. (more…)
