About The Jaws of Brooklyn
The Jaws of Brooklyn call Seattle home. Their sound blends Motown melody, Muscle Shoals soul, and West Coast rock and roll. Girl group glitter meets garage grit. As a result, the music feels like a throwback that never turns campy.
Frontwoman Gretchen Lemon taught school before she joined the band. Now she leads a lineup with guitarist Bryan Cohen, drummer Zia Uddin, keyboardist Dana Dysart, and bassist Paul Christofferson. Together they bring choreography and thick vocal harmonies to the stage. “We’ve always focused on our live show,” Lemon says.
Moreover, the band has played South by Southwest and Bumbershoot. Their 2025 songs on Crush On You carried them from local favorites to festival stages.
The New EP, Unstoppable
The new EP Unstoppable took the band to Florence, Alabama. There they recorded with Grammy-winning producer Ben Tanner, who started his career as keyboardist for Alabama Shakes. His small studio sits just across the Tennessee River from Muscle Shoals. Vintage drums, tube amps, and 1950s fuzz pedals gave the record plenty of analog attitude.
Then, back in Seattle, Andy Park mixed the singles “Where Are You?” and “Lie to Me.” Park also produced Deep Sea Diver’s last two records. As a result, the EP pairs vintage moves with a modern shine.
The songs tackle love triangles, breakups, and ride-or-die friendships. Meanwhile, “Lie to Me” turns into a spelling lesson, with help from Brittany Howard’s backup singers.
Heavy Bloom and McKenna Esteb
Heavy Bloom is a Seattle band that blends pop, R&B, and funk with 80s synth-pop and modern electronic touches. Marinella and Joji Hamada founded the group. Cory Hamada plays bass, Demarcus Baysmore plays drums, and Jacob Martin plays guitar. Their local following has grown at Capitol Hill Block Party, Fremont Fridays, and Bite of Seattle. Also, their single “Woke Up” arrived earlier this year.
McKenna Esteb grew up in Snoqualmie, Washington, performing at talent shows and in Seattle-area coffee shops. Today she splits her time between Boise and the Seattle area. Her soulful, groove-driven songs blend R&B, jazz, and folk. She has played Treefort Music Fest and released the project Home Safe in 2024.
