Bystander Intervention: Responding to Witnessed Harassment

What do you do when you witness harassment on the street, at the coffee shop or on the bus?

Pastor Andrew Conley-Holcom of Admiral United Church of Christ is a conflict management workshop facilitator and an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.  Pastor Conley-Holcom also facilitates workshops in bystander intervention.  The sessions involve theater games to explore, disrupt, and reformulate power relationships.

KBCS interviews Pastor Conley-Holcom about how the workshops are structured and some approaches to the urge to help.

Sikh Captain America

Imagine Captain America with a turban and beard. That’s one idea that has been brought to life by a Vishavjit Singh, a Sikh American cartoonist. This four-part series highlights a recent conversation with KBCS’s Yuko Kodama and Singh about what inspired his idea for Sikh Captain America and how this character is making an impact. “Wham! Bam ! Pow!” is the name of the exhibit featuring drawings of his superhero identity fighting hate and intolerance. The exhibit is at the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience.
