Japan Week @ Bellevue College
September 30, 2024 – October 5, 2024
Japan Week aims to introduce multiple facets of Japanese culture and to nurture and promote the cultural arts of Japan. The weekdays, Sept. 30 (Mon) through Oct. 4 (Fri), feature lectures and demonstrations for Bellevue College students. Oct. 5 (Sat) is our Matsuri (festival) day open to the general public and to BC students who missed the weekday events.

7:30 pm: Joshua Hyslop, Lydia Luce @ BALLARD HOMESTEAD

Abbey Arts will host an acoustic music concert on Friday, October 4th at the Ballard Homestead. This concert will feature singer-songwriters Joshua Hyslop and Lydia Luce. Both artists will perform their original music.

CroatiaFest will host a cultural festival on Sunday, October 6th at the Seattle Center. Event attendees can view historical exhibits and experience Croatian music and dance performances and cooking demonstrations by Croatian chefs.
9:00 am: Volunteer Nature Restoration @ Golden Gardens Park

Green Seattle Partnership will host a nature restoration event on Saturday, October 12th at the Golden Gardens Park in Ballard. Volunteers will work with GSP staff to remove invasive weeds and plant native species to restore the park’s natural ecosystem.

The Green Lake Litter Patrol will host a volunteer park clean up event on Sunday, October 13th at Green Lake Park. This community-led event will have volunteers work together to clean up and pick up litter, keeping the park a pleasant and cherished space for the community.
Lorenzo Micheli is an internationally renowned guitarist, performing over 600 concerts across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and beyond. He collaborates in the acclaimed duo "SoloDuo" and has an extensive discography of over 20 recordings. Micheli also teaches at prestigious institutions and is a dedicated editor and researcher in guitar music.
The African American Writers Alliance will host a social justice poetry event on Saturday, October 19th at the Seattle Central Public Library. Take a Stand: Poets Against Hate is a collaboration of literary organizations across King County, joining together to present the work of poets that fight injustice and inequity in our community.
The Gates Foundation will host a slam poetry event on Tuesday, October 22nd at the Discovery Center. This event will feature Sudanese-American slam poet, Emi Mahmoud, whose award-winning work inspires and empowers refugees around the world and raises awareness of the global refugee crisis.
The Bellevue College Office of Sustainability will host a Campus Habitat Restoration event on Wednesday, October 23rd on the Bellevue College campus. Volunteers will work with BC staff to remove invasive species, plant native vegetation, and install biofiltration devices to filter stormwater, keeping our salmon healthy.
Abbey Arts will host a piano concerto on Sunday, October 27th at Woodlawn Hall in Green Lake. This concert will feature neo-classical pianist Blkbok. His dynamic performance will take listeners through a journey of disparity, equity, and a celebration of diversity.
The Bellevue College Office of Sustainability will host a Fall Harvest Fair on Wednesday, October 30th on the Bellevue College campus. The fair will feature a free clothing swap, a soap refill station and other educational activities about sustainable living.
