Gordon Todd

Spinning tunes on KBCS since 1995, Gordie’s never-ending music education began with his sister’s Beatles records, his dad’s Chopin collection, his mom’s novelty songs, and his own affinity for the Motown and pop he heard on CKLW. He resides in Puget Sound with his family, his dogs Jaco and McCoy, and a houseful of records.

Gordon hosts Mostly Acoustic Mondays, Saturdays 7-9pm.

Sista Elaine

Sista Elaine lived on O’ahu in the cute town of Aiea before moving to Seattle. She began broadcasting in 2014 and enjoys sharing her love of the Hawaiian Islands with anyone who will listen, Saturdays at noon.

Sista Elaine helps host Hawai`i Radio Connection Saturdays 12-2pm.

Duncan Goulding

Since I began listening to reggae as a kid in Seattle, I’ve found it to be a never-ending source of enjoyment and a jumping-off point for historical and cultural learning.  There are always more artists to discover with conscious lyrics & musical styles to appreciate.  I love collecting and listening to reggae, and playing tunes for all KBCS reggae lovers.

Andrew Stauffer

Andrew Stauffer is an accomplished musician who learned to play piano at age 6. He currently performs with at least 3 groups in the Seattle area, playing  electric bass, keyboards, blues harmonica, and acoustic guitar. Originally from the East Coast, Andrew moved to Seattle in 1996 at the end of a long summer road trip.

Andrew has been listening to KBCS since he first got to Seattle. He loves the programming on KBCS because it caters to his wide range of musical interests. He is a huge fan of the public affairs programming, and relies on Democracy Now to keep him politically and socially informed.

Andrew currently hosts Back Tracks Sunday nights and co-hosts Crosscurrents Wednesdays 11pm-12am with Matt Fish.

Auntie `Ala

I  grew up in Manoa Valley on Oahu and graduated from Roosevelt High School. I moved to Washington in 1969 after marrying a sailor from Everett. We raised one son and I worked in food service and was a barista for 17 years until my husband passed. I danced hula with Kumuhula Sally Galt for nearly 20 years. So while taking a Hawaiian language class, I learned of the opportunity to co-host with Braddah Gomes and have been doing that for almost 2 years now. Playing Hawaiian music makes me feel closer to home.

Nje

Nje is a music producer and a performing artist, born and raised in Kenya and now living in the United States. He has been involved in the music industry for over twenty years. He is the Producer and Owner of Ufuoni (swahili for Seashore) Records and has participated in charity activities, organizing concerts and events throughout East Africa.

Nje is a conscious Hip Hop and Reggae Artist, influenced and inspired by the style of underground Hip-Hop and portraying positive messages in his music. He is still learning the Hip Hop cultures in the U.S. and as a Producer he targets the underground Hip Hop artist who never had a chance to get airplay on radio stations. He explores Hip Hop culture from all over the world.

Nje hosts Hip Hop Knuckles Saturdays 11pm-12am.

Juan Gonzalez

Co-founder and co-host of Democracy Now, Juan Gonzalez has been a professional journalist for more than 30 years and a staff columnist at the New York Daily News since 1987. He is a two-time recipient of the George Polk Award for commentary (1998 and 2010), and the first reporter in New York City to consistently expose the health effects arising from the September 11, 2001 attacks and the cover-up of these hazards by government officials.

He is a founder and past president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and a member of NAHJ’s Hall of Fame. During his term as NAHJ president, Gonzalez created the Parity Project, an innovative program that creates partnerships between local communities and media organizations to improve coverage of the Latino community and to recruit and retain more Hispanic journalists. He also spearheaded a successful movement among U.S. journalists to join other citizen groups in opposing the Federal Communications Commission’s deregulation of media ownership restrictions.

A founding member of the Young Lords Party in the 1970s and of the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights in 1980s, Gonzalez has twice been named by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the country’s most influential Hispanics and has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the National Council of La Raza, and the National Puerto Rican Coalition.

Gonzalez has written four books: Fallout: The Environmental Consequences of the World Trade Center Collapse, documents cover-ups by Environmental Protection Agency and government officials with regard to health hazards at Ground Zero in New York; Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America; and Roll Down Your Window: Stories of a Forgotten America. His latest book, News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media, co-authored with Joseph Torres, is a landmark narrative history of American media that puts race at the center of the story.
