Matt Fish

Matt began co-hosting CrossCurrents with his old friend Andrew Stauffer in February of 2021. While roommates during their college days in Boston in the early-90s, they embarked on a musical journey around the world that continues today, thirty years later, here in Seattle. Michael Schell

Michael Schell has been passionate about modern music ever since being spooked by a recording of The Rite of Spring as a toddler. He has two degrees in music, and has had various avocations as a composer, intermedia artist, systems engineer and cribbage player. He’s lived in Texas, California, Iowa, Nepal and New York, and now enjoys life in Seattle, where he hosts Flotation Device on KBCS and Radio Eclectus on KHUH, and writes about contemporary music for Sequenza21.com.

Richard Gillmann

I’ve been a KBCS host since 1997. I’m from Illinois originally and had a show on WHFH as far back as 1965. We moved to the Northwest in 1989. I’m a musician, too. I play guitar, ukulele and keyboards. The Seattle area has an abundance of great acoustic music and I often feature local musicians who deserve a wider audience.

Richard hosts The Real Folk Sundays 6-8pm.

Davey D

Davey D contributes to The Grit on KBCS. He is a host and producer for Hard Knock Radio, the hip hop culture and politics program produced at KPFA, Berkeley, CA.

An award-winning journalist, hip hop historian, deejay, and activist, Davey D grew up in the Bronx and graduated from UC Berkeley.

He writes for the San Jose Mercury News and teaches at San Francisco State.

Davey D speaks at high schools, universities and community centers throughout the country on hip hop, politics, and bridging the digital divide.

Mike Biggins

Mike worked behind the mic at stations in Iowa City, LA, Vail, San Diego and Las Vegas before moving to Seattle in 1995. He spends a lot of his free time traveling to festivals and shows in Austin, Nashville, Boston, Chicago and NYC.  In Seattle, he can frequently be found at the Tractor Tavern.

Mike Biggins hosts Sunday Folks, which airs every Sunday from 9am-12pm on KBCS.

Ben Brandow

Ben Brandow is the current Interim General Manager for KBCS and served as Director of Development for KBCS six years prior. Before coming to KBCS, Ben worked at non-commercial radio and television stations in Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri. He holds a Bachelor’s in Media Production from Missouri State University and a Master’s in Communication from Perdue University.

In his spare time you may find Ben exploring the outdoors and beauty of the Northwest with his family or hanging out at some of his favorite neighborhood spots in Columbia City.

Jim Cantú

Jim is a long-time Eastside resident.  He has worked in broadcasting on and off since the last century.  He currently a news producer, and co-host of the ¡Sabor! Latin music program.

John Gibaut

John was born on the Island of Jersey, a British Crown Dependency in the English Channel. In 2002 he immigrated to the US and settled near Seattle with his wife, Robin. He soon found 91.3 KBCS on the radio. After regularly volunteering during pledge drives, he trained to become a DJ and joined the Sunday’s Hornpipe team in 2016. He hopes you enjoy listening to the show as much as he enjoys putting it together for you.
