DJ Notes: 2018 was a GREAT year, both for artists who got their start in the 90s alternative heyday (Breeders, Melvins, Sloan, Mudhoney, Tracey Thorn, etc.) and for newer indie artists keeping the 90s spirit alive (Snail Mail, Courtney Barnett, Jack White, etc.). Honorable mention to two reissues I loved that don’t fit either of those categories: Bob Dylan’s “More Blood, More Tracks: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 14” and Guns ‘n Roses’ “Appetite for Destruction (Super Deluxe).”

Joan Baez  Whistle Down the Wind  Proper Records

Open the Door for Three  The Joyful Hour  Self

John McCutcheon  Ghost Light  Self

DJ Notes: For my best of list, I try to pick from the acoustic folk centered music that we mostly showcase on Folksounds. For that reason I usually don’t include Bluegrass or Celtic but there are sometimes albums like Childsplay that cross all genres and find their way into my heavy listening list. I’ll leave the Bluegrass and Celtic picks to the knowledgeable hosts of Bluegrass Ramble and Sunday’s Hornpipe. Enjoy the music!!
